BIG NEWS ON AML WORLD AWARENESS DAY
Acute Myeloid Leukemia -- three words we heard for the first time in 2012 and that would change our family forever. When Russ was diagnosed with AML, we had no real concept of how harrowing a disease this would turn out to be. This is a disease that comes with more ups and downs than any one person should ever have to endure. It’s a disease that gives you hope and then immediately turns around and dashes it. It’s a disease that mutates and mutates and then mutates again, making it increasingly difficult to target it well.
From the moment we had to say goodbye to Russ, we swore we’d carry on his incredible legacy. Part of which was his desire to help fund as much research as possible, in the hopes that we could give patients more time and better outcomes.
Today, on AML World Awareness Day, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve made another $50,000 donation to Dr. Guillermo Garcia-Manero and his life-saving research at MD Anderson’s Cancer Center, bringing our total donations to $200,000. Our contributions thus far have helped fund research into many new treatments and medications, ultimately changing the standard of care for leukemia patients and helping to double the survival curve in remission. While we haven’t yet found a cure for this disease, we’re incredibly proud that we’ve been able to contribute to the massive advancements in treating it. And we know that, one day, our mission will be fulfilled and we will have put an end to all myelogenous cancers. To all of those who have donated to our cause over the last few years, we can’t thank you enough. As we continue in our pursuit, we appreciate your support more than you know -- you’re helping us give the gift of time to so many patients battling this disease; something which we know firsthand can’t be underestimated.
